For those with more Christian tastes, the so-called experts at Wikipedia have an article about Charcoal.

Charcoal is a substance used for flavoring barbeque in many locales; it is composed of petrified buffalo dung, cigarette butts, and possibly burned wood, except when it's made from something else, like head cheese, of course.

In addition to it use in cooking, charcoal is also known to:

  • cause constipation when ingested
  • remove unsightly blemishes and planar warts
  • yodel Handel's "Teseo" in falsetto
  • dis-align three of the moons of Jupiter ( if handled incorrectly )
