Sympathy

The art of pretending to give a shit, usually in order to get something. Even those who claim not to believe in it are susceptible to its Evil powers.

History

First 'discovered in the early 1990's by Women, the idea that Sympathy is anything more than a mythical force made up so people can be 'Nice' has been disputed ever since. Despite the ongoing controversy, it remains a major force in many media, particularly in popular daytime talk shows such as Oprah, which is (coincidentally?) marketed primarily to Women.
